The 2023 high school quiz bowl season culminated in one hectic week of competition.  The East Husker Conference Quiz Bowl competition was hosted by Scribner-Snyder on the evening of Monday, March 17. The four-person senior team defeated Howells-Dodge in the opening bracket match, then lost the next match.

The schedule was double booked for Wednesday, March 29, so the senior team chose to go to Norfolk for the NECC tournament.  They won their first three matches to move through the winners bracket and lost going into the semi-finals.  Then they moved into the consolation bracket where they won the first match, then lost in the next round to be eliminated.  Also on Wednesday, a JV team went to West Point to play in the ESU2 quiz bowl.  The JV team lost two matches to be eliminated, but gained experience for next year, when we rebuild after losing a great senior team.

We added a couple middle school competitions to our schedule this year that the students enjoyed, and I was amazed at the parents & grandparents that showed up to watch.  We formed a 7th and 8th grade team and attended the Middle School Science Bowl at Concordia in Seward, and also took two teams to a triangular at North Bend.  We plan to continue attending both of these competitions in the future, if available, and will be looking for more opportunities for both teams.
